LECTURES

Lecture 1: Introduction to the Module
02.04.19 | Week 1

As usual, for the first class the lectures introduces us to the information booklet of the module. Mr.Vinod also showed us some of the last semester works.

Lecture 2: Typographic Systems
09.04.19 | Week 2

This week we prepare a presentation as a lecture for the typographic systems. Here's the compilation of all groups presentation.

Finding Type (Week 3 – Week 4)

We were briefed on our next exercise of type and play. We had to choose any photo. Then we had to trace the structure using lines and shapes. Since we can use a free stock photo, I choose a photo of tree branches from pexels.

Fig 2.2 Final of the tracing with the image

After I did the tracing I started to find the letterforms in the imaged I traced. I found a letter A, V, T, E.

Refining

The next thing I do is to refine the letters.

After receiving feedbacks. I started to improve it and studied the characteristic of the branches more.

Type & Play: Part 2 (Week 5)

We had to choose a photo from the Internet. After choosing the image, we have to add sentences to it. We to enhance the photo using the letters. Here is my first work of the exercise. I decide to make an event poster.

The lectures told me that my work looks a lot like a poster. They expected us to make only image and letters.

FEEDBACKS

Week 1
No feedback this week.

Week 2
General feedback: Mr.Vinod told us to make sure when we present our point, we have to remain eye contact with the audience. After that, he said that hierarchy is really important when we make our presentation. He told us not to make some sentences to long that could make the audiences hard to read. And while we do the exercise, he told us not to focus on using colours first. And for the exercise, Mr.Vinod told us to stick to one typeface.

Specific feedback: When Mr.Vinod look some of my designs he said that I am getting there. For my axial, he said that I have to remove the circle (graphics).

Week 3
General feedback: Mr.Vinod told us to use 8-12pt for body text.

Specific feedback: Mr.Vinod said that my understanding of the systems are very good. I need to fix a little bit of the spacing. He also told me some of the keyboard shortcuts that might be useful.

Week 4
Specific feedback: When I showed Mr.Vinod my thumbnail of the final outcome, Mr.Vinod said that my work looks very good.

Week 5
Mr.Vinod told me that I should not make it look like poster.

REFLECTIONS

Experiences

Week 2
I like learning about the typographic systems and all the presentations helps me to understand more about the systems.

Week 3
It takes a lot of time to do this week's exercise. Especially when I do the dilatation, transitional, and random. I'm kind of glad that I did not have to change much after receiving feedbacks, where I just have to fix the spacing.

Week 4
I find that I have to trace the details of the tree branches so I can find the characteristics.

Week 5
It's hard to find the suitable image.

Observations

Week 2
I observe that hierarchy, alignment are important on creating the design.

Week 3
I observe that spacing is really important. It should not be divided into many text boxes. I also observe that this exercise could help me on making the poster in our project later on.

Week 4
By tracing the details, it could help me to design the letters.

Week 5
I see that my friends are designing their words using different kinds of photos.

Findings

Week 2
I found that we have focus on creating the system not just the design, means we cannot use a lot of graphic to helps the design. Make it without the graphics first, so that you can see if it works or not.

Week 3
I found that equal spacing between text could make the design look more appealing.

Week 4
I find that we can design typeface form any elements or structure of an object.

Week 5
We have to make the typeface looks like it has the same movement as the photo.
