LECTURES

Lecture 6: Finding Inspiration - Typeface Design
07.05.19 | Week 6

This week's lecture was about how to find inspiration when designing a typeface. I found that designers could create a typeface from anything in our everyday lives. Also, there are many way you can get inspired.

Lecture 7: Designing Type: Thinking Before Drawing

15.05.19 | Week 7

This week my group members and I presented the lecture, Thinking Before Drawing, Anatomy of Type and Construction of Components.

INSTRUCTIONS

Project 1: The Troublemakers Manifesto: A Design Colloquium - Title & Key Artwork
07.05.19 | Week 6

For this project, we were told to create an artwork about The Troublemakers Manifesto. We have to choose a key artwork for this project that represent the title. I choose Che Guevara photos for my key artwork. Che Guevara was a Marxist revolutionary allied with Fidel Castro during Cuban revolution. He gave up his life for wha he believed in, socialism. his name can be equated to rebellion and revolution. He is commonly referred to as "Che". He is famous for his struggle against social injustice, slavery and ethnic discrimination. To the soviets, Che Guevara was "a troublemaker".

1.2 First attempt

After receiving feedbacks, I decided to change it.

Mr.Vinod told me to read and learn about the bauhaus design theory. I learn that by adding the basic shapes it helps to create tension a specific part of the artwork.

1.3 The Bauhaus and Design Theory

1.4 Second attempt

After receiving feedbacks, I arrange it to make it look more like a key artwork.

1.5 Final Key Artwork

FEEDBACK

Week 6
On my first attempt (first project), Mr. Vinod told me that i should make the 'troublemakers' and the 'manifesto' should not be seperated.

Week 7
I have to use the basic shape (The Bauhaus) to create tension to the eyes. Mr.Shamsul told me that i should start of by making it look like a logo not poster.

REFLECTION

Experiences

Week 6
I found it hard to find the appropriate image that represent 'troublemakers'.

Week 7
It is hard on making the key artwork. The use of the image must represent 'troublemakers'.

Observations

Week 6
I observe that finding the right image for the key artwork is hard.

Week 7
I observe that the more read about what troublemakers really is, the more I know how to represent the 'troublemakers' in my design. Also, by doing a further reading, we can know more some theories that might help on making the design.

Findings

Week 6
I found out that the key artwork has to be able to represent 'the troublemakers manifesto' even before we add text.

Week 7
It's interesting that there are so many ideas on how people represent their own understanding about 'troublemakers'.

  • The ABCs of [triangle, Square, Circle]: The Bauhaus and Design Theory

I found out about this theory from the link that Mr.Vinod sent me.

I learn that by using colour and shade on a design for graphic element, it can perform many things to the viewer. Colour can help the balance of a design. Balance is the distribution of heavy and light elements on the page. Larger, darker elements appear heavier in the design than smaller, lighter elements. The principle of balance can help draw the viewer to the element you want them to focus on first. Colour can also help to emphasize something on your page. Emphasis is what the eye is drawn to in a design. Also, by using the basic shapes, it could create tension to some specific parts and create more impacts for the design.
