Project 1: Project Proposal

Week 1

This week, my groupmates and I started brainstorming ideas for the project. We decided to do animation since none of us specialized in animation. We decided to explore more about animation. Since our project needs to have something to do with Covid-19, we decided to make a short animation film to educate and entertain kids about the new normal. Our target audience is children from the age of 6 until 12.

Week 2

For this week, we started to discuss the storyline. We prepared two ideas for the storyline.

This week, we also prepared the moodboard for our animation. Here's our first moodboard:

For the storyline, we decided to go with Idea 1. However, we were told not to use junk food as the characters because it doesn't really make sense. It is not related to Covid-19. Miss Anis and Miss Madina are okay with our color palette and our environment style. We were told to make sure that the typeface we use is free used font. Our first idea is to make the whole style to have a retro style illustration. However, since we change our storyline and characters, we decided to change it.

Here's the full document of the first and second storyline idea:

Week 3

This week, we still stuck on doing the storyline and we changed our character into puppies. We differentiate the characters from the dog breeds and we also add personality for each puppy. We choose three dog breeds, which are Chihuahua, Pug, and Corgi. We also find some references for character and environment design. After that, we did a few sketches for the character.

We created another different storyline and we also added the dialogues for each character.

Our third storyline idea:

However, Miss Anis told us that our story is too long and still a little bit complex for kids. We were told to find some children animation on youtube for references. Miss Anis suggested us to do a body language and expression animation (no dialogue animation). We were also told to state why each puppy has a certain personality.

We decided to make the story more simple and shorter. We also discuss more about the character's personality. Then, we go straight on doing a rough storyboard.

Week 4

This week, Miss Anis and Miss Madina told us to discuss about social awareness visuals on ads. We were told to find one bad advertisement and one good advertisement about social awareness. We have to state our reasons on why is it bad or good ads.

We apply our analysis method to our project process. So this week, we finally choose our main key messages for our animation.

Week 5

This week, we created a better-looking storyboard for our presentation. We improved our storyboard so it will have a certain camera angle so when we present it, the audience could get our idea, also, the improved storyboard is made for our guide on illustrating each scene.

We also did the animatics for our animation. We added music and a few sound effects. Below is our animatics video:

We also finalized our character, environment and font style with Miss Anis.

We also managed to add personality to our character. We also prepared some reasons on why our character has a certain personality.

This week, we also have a presentation for our proposal. Here's our slide:

Feedback: No need to include the hospitalized part or change it into arrested by police.

Project 2: Project Development

Week 6-8

This week, we create a timeline so we can divide our works. We started with the character design and environment and prop design.

Week 9

This week, we combine all the scenes that we've illustrated.

However, we were told to add a thick outline outside of the character to created contrast on the characters from the environment.

Week 10 - 13

We started animating in after effects. We divided the task among the group members.

We also finish the video compilation this week and adding sound effects and music from the animation. I decided to add voiceover for the 3 characters. Aside from that, Ms. Anis also did a voiceover for the chicken.

Feedback: Add sound effects for the dramatic of some scene to highlight the animation.

Project 3: Final Project and Final Outcome

Here's our final outcome:

Feedback: Miss Anis and Miss Madina is overall impressed with our final outcome and they really like the choice of the sound effect. Overall, it is a well done animation.

Miss Anis and Miss Madina is overall impressed with our final outcome and they really like the choice of the sound effects. Overall, it is a well done animation.

REFLECTION

This module taught me how to do animation works and how to make a short film. Overall, i learn a lot about movie making process. I also learn that it is good to receive feedback from lecturers and even from our design friends so we can improve our work even more. There were lots of challenges when animating, but we still managed to do all the animation by helping each other. Overall, it is a great opportunity to learn this module.
